Rep. Michaud Reacts To Action On Trade Agreements

Office of Rep. Mike Michaud WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representative Mike Michaud (D-ME), Chairman of the House Trade Working Group, issued the following statement on the House Ways & Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee mock markups of the free trade agreements with Korea, Colombia, and Panama: “Today’s action unfortunately signals that Washington is one step closer to passing more free trade deals that the American people don’t want. These trade agreements were negotiated inside the beltway for the benefit of giant multinational corporations at the expense of American workers. “At a time when unemployment remains high, there are far more productive ways that we can help our economy recover. We can start by not shipping our jobs overseas and cracking down on currency manipulators like Korea, who we are now closer to rewarding with a free trade agreement. “I’ll work with my colleagues to oppose these agreements when they come to the floor and will continue to fight for fairer trade that promotes the export of American goods, not American jobs.”
